I am the clinical lead for heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and heart failure devices (biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators) at the University Hospital of Wales. I have received several National NHS awards for service delivery to the highest standards, commitment to patient care and innovative value-based practices.
I've implanted over 3,000 heart failure devices and am a European Society of Cardiology proctor for these procedures. I lead an active research group and serve as the UK Chief investigator of several International clinical trials. I was also appointed as a National Institute of Social Care and Health Research (NISCHR) fellow in 2011. I hold an honorary chair at Cardiff University.
I have published more than 100 high impact medical papers and contributed to several chapters in medical textbooks.
I'm currently approved by the Football Association for cardiac screening of elite athletes.

Personal profile
I am involved with several charities. I chair the Heart Research Wales charity which aims to promote education and research in Wales. With my African background (born in Tanzania and early schooling in Zambia), I annually undertake missions to Africa to help develop heart failure and pacing facilities in poorer countries (Sierra Leone, Sudan, Kenya, Libya, Ethiopia). Through Cardiff University and the Pan African Society of Cardiology, I run the first post-graduate course in heart failure for Africa (Africa-HF). I am a devoted father to my two children, and sadly, sporting activities these days are restricted to spectatorship and serving as a cardiologist for local football and rugby clubs. I look forward to spending weekends away and walking around Welsh mountains with my partner.
